...He slowly set the plate down and said, “Well, the colors really aren’t for me. Come and I’ll show you.” He grasped her hand lightly and led her toward a window seat and she could make out the silhouette of someone sitting behind the sheer curtain. With his free hand he pushed the curtain aside and she saw a girl sitting on the sill staring at the beams of colored light passing through the glass chimes outside. With a sad soft voice Toby said, “This is my sister.” Elise looked the girl over and noticed she was entirely pale–almost devoid of all color. She looked like a washed out picture. Toby explained that his sister was once magical and it was her duty to provide the upkeep to the rainbow bridges. The way she channeled her special gift was through a paintbrush that allowed her to repair any wear and tear to them. He looked longingly at his sister and said, “Unless you had really heightened senses you couldn’t see the rainbows at all.”
